The Madonna Inn - a magical quirky hotel in beautiful San Luis Obispo.
This was a 5.5 hour drive from us, plus all the fun stops there were to be made along the way. Make sure to pop in Solvang on your way back home for some aebleskivers. The perfect girl's road trip itinerary coming right up!

I have this memory in my head of seeing The Madonna Inn on tv as a kid. I remember as they walked from the caveman room to the jungle room and thinking how cool it would be to stay there one day. Im proud to say I fulfilled my childhood dream and it was SO COOL! The Madonna Inn is located off of highway 101, minutes away from San Luis Obispo. This isn't your typical hotel. The hotel is a destination all by itself. It has earned that right. With 110 different themed rooms to choose from, this is unlike any hotel experience you've ever had before. Some rooms still have that old fashioned charm, while some have rock waterfalls. Some are pink and glittery from floor to ceiling. If you're used to staying in luxury hotels, i'm not sure that this place would appeal to you much. If you're boring just say so.
After researching what room we wanted, we decided on "The Merry Room". Pink glitter walls, chandeliers, burgundy carpet. It was fabulous darling. We SCREAMED to find out the toilet seats are heated. Just delightful.

The Merry Room
Every corner of this hotel was made for taking fun pictures. It also makes you feel like you took a step back in time.

The restaurant was everything. Look how beautiful and PINK everything is!
Alright, now for the awkward part. The famous pink champagne cake. It was cute. It was not amazing. It makes me sad to say that. Maybe it was just an off day? The plus side is they do have a fairly large bakery, and all the sugar on the table for coffee is pink (of course) so I forgive them. I think you need to order a slice and just see for yourself.
During the day we headed over to downtown SLO and walked around. There are tons of great stores and yummy food to eat. For dinner we chose Big Sky Cafe, you need to add this to your list. I got the brussel sprouts and vegetarian pozole bowl, yum. You can easily spend an entire day in downtown SLO walking the streets.
To end our stay at the Madonna Inn we hit up the gigantic gift shop. There were so many fun things but we already had our hearts set on their signature goblets and a magnet of course. Cheers to a successful stay!

On our way back to socal, we stopped in Solvang "the Danish capital of America". Solvang is about an hour away from the Madonna Inn and is soooo worth the stop! The streets are lined with Danish architecture, bakeries, shoe shops, etc. I will admit I was first introduced to Solvang by Jess from New Girl. I knew right then we had to go. It has a very laid back quiet vibe. Perfect place to get a yummy snack and get some steps in.
Whatever you do - try the Aebelskivers, they're like little pancake balls of perfection. We got ours with raspberry jam. There were also homemade fudge and pretzel shops next door.
If you have extra time on this road trip, I would definitely add in a day in Santa Barbara!
Girl's trips are good for the soul. They should be considered self-care. They always include lots of belly laughs and snacks. There's something so special about them. My friend and I are both working moms and a road trip is such a great way to sit and talk about silly stuff, and forget about all of our responsibilities for just a little bit.
Off to go plan my next girl's trip,
Taylor
